A Life of Happiness or a Life of Meaning?

There are 2 different paths in life…

You can either have a life of happiness or a life of meaning….BUT YOU CAN’T HAVE BOTH…

They lead separate pathways in life:

Life of happiness – live in the present, no thought of before or what lies ahead

Life of meaning – condemned to wallow in the past & obsess about the future

It’s a decision everyone has to make. One might argue that a life of meaning is truly happiness. But a life of meaning is truly a lonely road. So in the true meaning of happiness is lonely happy? Myself, much like many other this day are at a crossroads…which life will I choose?

I keep thinking about Christ’s walk for a life of meaning…was his life a life we really are wanting to take?  We may think living a life just like Jesus Christ is happy…but is it?

I sometimes feel convicted by the over romanitcizing of all the happy clappy things about Jesus.  Because I often neglect the moments of intense sacrifice, incredible loneliness & many hardships & temptations to overcome.

A Follower of Jesus Christ,

Josh

hmm, well, I think differently. I think that to live a life of meaning can bring both happiness AND sorrow. if you have meaning, then you dont have to wallow or obsess. I think that to live a meaningful life means you live in the present as you think Christ would want you to live it, and trying to live as Christ lived. A life of happiness on the other hand, well I don’t think that you have much meaning if your only living to be happy. I put happiness with shallowness often times. Such as, you might be happy with some addiction you have, such as porn, but how in anyway is that meaningful? so to me, to live meaningfully is to know that Christ lived a life full of meaning and he suffered but was also happy, and that we will also go through different things in our life, if we decide to try to live a life full as He did.

A LIFE OF HAPPINESS TO ME IN LIFE HAS HAD MANY MEANINGS. I HAVE FOUND FEELINGS GET IN THE WAY MOST OF THE TIME.
TO LIVE EACH DAY TO THE FULLEST IS MY GOAL… TO SEE A SUNRISE OR A SUNSET IS HAPPINESS, TO SEE THE BEAUTY THAT GOD HAS CREATED FOR US, IS HAPPINESS, TO OBSERVE A SMILE ON A CHILD’S FACE IS HAPPINESS,, TO EAT YOUR FAVORITE DESSERT IS HAPPINESS…

HAPPINESS HAS MANY MEANINGS, BUT THE ONE THING I HAVE FOUND FOR TRUE HAPPINESS IS CHRIST’S ULTIMATE LOVE FOR ME, HIS MERCY HAS NO BOUNDS,,, HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR ME EVERYDAY, BUT ONLY IF I REALIZE IT… AND IF I CAN GET THROUGH EACH AND EVERYDAY SOMEHOW REACHING OUT AND TOUCHING ANOTHER’S LIFE WITH ENCOURAGING WORDS OR A SMILE THEN THAT IS HAPPINESS TO ME. FOR YOU SEE, GOD IS PLEASED WITH HIS CHILDREN WHEN THEY ARE BUSY ABOUT HIS WORK! BLESSED ARE THE PEACE MAKERS, BLESSED ARE THE MEEK, BLESSED ARE THEY THAT HUNGER AND SEEK HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR HIS NAME’S SAKE.

WE ARE BLESSED COMING IN AND GOING OUT, SO WHY WE WOULD NOT BE HAPPY? EVERYDAY IS A BRAND NEW DAY TO LIVE MORE ABUNDANTLY AND TO GIVE GOD PRAISE.

YES JOSH I GET SOMETIMES CAUGHT UP IN THE MOMENT OF HAPPY, CLAPPY JESUS…. BUT THANK GOD WE CAN CLAP OUR HANDS, WE CAN RAISE OUR HANDS AND LIFT OUR VOICES TO THE ONE WHO LOVES US.

AS FAR AS JESUS HAVING A LONELY WALK… HE STEPPED AWAY TO PRAY AND TO FAST AND TO BECOME RE-ENERGIZE, BUT OH! HHHH
WHEN HE CAME AMONGST THE PEOPLE HE WAS STRONG, AND POWERFUL AND PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS WORK FOR THE SOULS TO BE RENEWED, REFILLED, RESTORED AND LIVE VICTORIOUSLY…..
OUR LONLINESS BECOMES A NEW BIRTH, A NEW URGENCY TO FULFILL
OUR CALLING FOR THE LORD’S WORK.

I BELIEVE WE CAN HAVE BOTH… HAPPINESS AND MEANING….

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON HOW YOU LOOK AT IT, IS THE GLASS HALF FULL OR IS IT HALF EMPTY?????

You know, I’ve really been trying to seek God about “happiness.” Like many, I somehow came into the belief that God didn’t want us to be happy. Or that being happy was not holy. Or that only having joy was good and being happy was bad. But I’m not quite so sure that that is biblical. I’ve recently come into the knowledge of a few scriptures that talk about happiness. Here are some examples:

Psalm 68:3 NIV But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.

Ecc. 3:12 NIV I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.

I’m not ready to throw pursuing happiness out of the window as if it can not be pursued along with meaning, joy and overall the will of God. I want to live in and walk in everything God has for me – happiness included.
